Introducing Our Mountain Home in Colorado “Happy Ours”

September 2015

We fell in love with this property the second we saw it.  We knew this was IT for us.  We closed escrow and moved in a little over 2 weeks ago and we are still pinching ourselves to make sure we’re not just dreaming this.  We can’t wipe the smiles off our faces because we are so happy to be here, to enjoy this comfortable home and soak in the beauty that surrounds us every minute.  I’ll be sharing a lot of pictures, but I have to say that a picture alone cannot capture the entire experience.  To breathe the fresh mountain air; to watch and hear the hummingbirds coming up to our feeders just a few feet from us, robins, blue jays and other little birdies flitting from tree to tree; to feel hypnotized by the gentle breeze blowing through the pines, aspen, oak and maple trees; and to see the deer grazing out back, the groups of wild turkeys just passing by, the chipmunks and squirrels playing in the trees.  I can’t take a photograph that activates all those senses.  (Although some people I know can do that.)   And to be honest, I haven’t really even tried.  I’m so thoroughly in the moment here that taking pictures doesn’t even enter my mind.  So here is a collection that will give you a little tour of our new home which we have named “Happy Ours”.

Welcome Friends!

We then began discovering all the treasures left for us in every room, in every cupboard and every closet, and we were speechless.  For several days, we continued to discover amazing things.  We would hear the other exclaim “Oh my god!” from another room and realize something new was discovered.  And once again feel overwhelmed by their generosity.

  1. Beautiful home! Congratulations! And to have them leave everything for you! The furnishings are perfect for the house. That’s pretty funny that they are leaving to do what you guys just finished doing. Your closets do look empty though. Have fun shopping and I hope you both enjoy your new home.

      • We’ll get there someday. I’m officially retired now but Richard is still working. We’d love to see your new home! We won’t be visiting in the winter though. I don’t care to ever deal with the snow again! Fall is my favorite season. I can’t wait to see the pictures of your property then. It should be gorgeous then when all those trees change color!

  2. I don’t know you but I am very happy and excited for you both on your new home. Thanks for sharing your photos with us because it allows us to dream for ourselves. Enjoy!

  3. Mike and Linda, the “estate” is incredible! You’ll have a waiting list for the guest room, including us. We’ll have a new grand baby in Fort Collins coming in December, so we’ll definitely come see you in the spring!

  4. So happy for you! Wow! It is amazing. Tom says he wants to come and live with you! lol I know you have always loved Colorado. I can see why you feel it is so special. Enjoy! Big hugs and congrats!

  5. What an amazing find! Your property, house, and many out buildings are just beautiful. And to get it furnished is a dream for someone coming out of a MH. We don’t exactly have much:) I know you will enjoy your new little paradise:)

    • The timing and coincidence of everything about this is mind-boggling. We totally liquidated a decade ago, which was great at that time. And then to find this perfect place completely furnished just when we were ready for it is so lucky. What are the odds of that?!

  6. Mike and Linda, I missed out on the last Sail aboard Aquila, missed out aboard the Coach, but Olga and I would love to see you guys for a long weekend as your guests in your new home. Remember I can grill a mean steak or make you a pot of mean split pea soup.

  7. Linda and Mike, Congratulations! What a find. I kept saying “Oh my God” just looking at your photos so I think you did a great job conveying the feel of the place. The kitchen is fantastic! And we loved your master bedroom with the bay window, deck and hot tub. That’s the kind of place I’d fall madly in love with…mountains, fresh air, birds, deer, trees. Ah, you are very fortunate, indeed.

  8. What a cool digs in the mountains! I was feeling your feelings as I read your descriptions. What a lovely place and how wonderful the sellers were too. They must be downsizing too hence they left everything to you.
Congratulations, perhaps you invite all your RV friends and have a party at your huge compound 🙂

  9. Linda and Mike, Congratulations!  This year we are just beginning our RV travels, but with the little piece of heaven you’ve settled down into, we’re tempted to skip it and find a Shangri-La of our own!  Your place looks absolutely perfect.  Rusty says, “are there any other places like that around?”  We hope to visit Colorado soon.  Let us know when you’re ready for visitors.  Tom and Cathie Dunn just sold their boat and are looking for an RV.  Maybe they’ll come along with us. How far are you from “civilization”?  It looks like you’re pretty self-sufficient where you are, but do you need to worry about being snowed in?  Somehow, I think that would actually be welcome for you both.  Anyway, enjoy the wonderful world you find yourselves in.  It certainly is a beautiful place. Joy and Rusty Dawson

    • Hi Rusty and Joy! Please come visit us anytime! We would love to see you. We love it here so much. There are many wonderful properties available, but we feel like we found the perfect one! Hope to see you when you’re out this way.
